Installation
Can I try Sara OS before installing?
Yes. Boot from the installation drive to open the live environment. Test the desktop, Wi-Fi and sound there. The drive is only changed after you confirm installation.
Can I install Sara OS alongside Windows?
The current installer does not offer this option. The selected drive is erased completely. Read the installation guide before proceeding.
Which computers are supported?
The ISO is intended for 64-bit Intel and AMD computers with UEFI. Hardware support varies; test important devices in the live environment and review the system requirements.
Why won’t my USB drive boot?
Write the ISO using an image-writing application, select the drive in the UEFI boot menu and disable Secure Boot. If needed, verify the download’s SHA256 checksum.
Applications
How do I install more applications?
Open Software to find, install and update apps from Flathub. Review each app’s information and requested permissions.
Will my Windows applications work?
Windows applications do not run on Linux automatically. Before switching, check whether your essential applications have Linux or web versions, or a suitable alternative.
Which browser is included?
Helium is the default browser. You can install another available browser and set it as your default.
Which languages does Sara OS support?
Sara OS is available in Dutch and English. Choose your language during installation or change it later in Settings.
Updates and recovery
Why are the ISO and update version numbers different?
Not every system update includes a new ISO. The latest update is 1.2.10; the available ISO is 1.2. Install from the ISO, then update through Settings.
What should I do if an update fails?
Check your internet connection and available storage, and note the error message. Do not interrupt an installation in progress. Review the update and restore-point guidance before continuing.
Is a restore point a backup?
A restore point restores the system, not the entire contents of your drive. Keep personal files on a separate drive or other backup location as well.
Sara AI
Is Sara AI required?
No. Sara AI is installed separately through Software. The desktop and other applications work without the assistant.
Does Sara work offline?
The language model runs locally. Tools such as web search and weather still require internet access. Review privacy and permission settings before using them.
Where do I manage permissions?
Open Settings → Sara AI to manage access to files, websites, screen content and other tools.
